Here are 2 great pictures to sum up my day.. Jennifer at 5 MONTHS PREGNANT training out in the cold and Natalie ripping up 95kg for reps on only her 4th time ever deadlifting. Jennifer has trained with me for a good while now and after falling pregnant, she decided to carry on training for as long as she could. All Ive done with regards to her training is listen to what shes telling me and adjust each session accordingly. We use Qigong and other breathing techniques between exercises to keep the heart rate relatively low and at the end to de-stress and promote recovery. We include the likes of pelvic floor and TVA exercises too and also adapt the intensity generally for each stage of pregnancy as well as avoiding any exercises laying on her back. Other than that its still pretty much a regular programme for the most part. It definitely has become a lot tougher for her as the bump has grown and we did have a few run for the bin moments early on but overall shes doing really well and still very mobile and strong. Natalie started with me just a few months back and at first it was all outdoor conditioning work we did. As the cold weather has crept in weve moved in to the gym more often and she has literally gone from strength to strength. At first she found it tough to lift 2 x 8kg dumbbells and here she is hunting down a 100kg dead lift lol. Funny thing is Ive got a feeling shes got some much heavier lifts in her. Natalie started with no real solid goals other than to feel better and improve her overall fitness for her sport but as she realises what she can do and listens to more and more people comment on how good shes looking, Im getting more new goals from her every week. Well done girls. Its things like this that make my job worthwhile 👍 More to come from both in 2015!!! So, there you have proof that you CAN actually train and live well between Christmas and New Year without bursting in to flames. Ive just shown you a pregnant woman and a relative novice doing it so whats your excuse? Waiting til January? New year, new you? ...I call bullshit 😉 get started today!!
