Here are a couple of interesting items - which MUST be MEDAL related. The scans show two items: The Identity Bracelet, in Sterling silver (Hallmarked London 1917) and engraved for: D.D. OFlaherty. R.C. R.N.A.S. (this of course means his name, Roman Catholic and Royal Naval Air Service.). Secondly is a medal on the Obverse: South African Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association Championship and showing the Arms of the four colonies. On the Reverse: 1909 100 Yards Flat Race Championship - Third - D.D. OFlaherty (therefore the Bronze Medal). The big clue, of course is Royal Naval Air Service. My search produced the following: That these are to Flight Sub Lieutenant Denis Delmar OFlaherty; Royal Naval Air Service. Born 1885. Apparently served RNAS 1912 to 1920. And in the Great War, from 1914. BUT that is far as I could get. CAN anyone kindly provide further information, please, and including if possible his 1914-1918 M.I.C. ? Unfortunately, I do not have his WWI medals, and have no idea where they may be......... However, it would be interesting to try to follow up on this man, with some further research, after all, the RNAS was (with the RFC) in their infancy in 1912, and OFlaherty could well have been amongst one of the founding Officers......
