Here are the signs that your child’s predominant learning style - TopicsExpress

Here are the signs that your child’s predominant learning style is “observer”: Prefers to watch and absorb, slow to join in. Loves instruments, props and adores story time. The observer learner is often the one sitting right next to me with their hand on my knee during story time. Wants to be picked up every time we all get up for a gross motor activity. Buries their head in your lap if anyone tries to make eye contact. Won’t perform an activity at Kindermusik, unless they are absolutely confident they can do it. They are perfectionists at heart, so don’t like to do something until they know they are doing it right. Don’t worry, Kindermusik is the perfect activity for your little quiet one, because it allows your child to be however they want to be in class and with your gentle encouragement, they will gradually come out of their shell once their confidence grows. The routine structure of the class also gives them security in knowing what is coming next. How can you help them? Lots of repetition of the current class CD helps these children to gain confidence and familiarity with the music/activities in class. If your child wants to sit out a gross motor activity, then let them. You can either do it alone with us while they sit quietly in the corner or you sit with them. If the latter, then keep them engaged by telling them what we are doing i.e. you are being an observer learner with them. Lastly, LUCKY you, the teachers at school will love your child as they will be the one listening, paying attention, writing neatly and always good at homework. It is wrong that our performance based society today expects children to be all bouncy and crazy at everything. The world needs deep thinkers and research scientists as well as great movers and shakers. These children will grow up happy spending hours hunched over a microscope searching for a cure for cancer and will be fabulously patient parents.
