Here in the Highland we love our proper beers check out the lot from the Ayr brewing company (https://facebook/AyrBrewingCompany) I wonder what there voteing ? The Launch of our referendum ales will take place in the Twa Dugs in Ayr on Tuesday 29th July from 2pm. Come along and enjoy the fun! Profits from the referendum ales on the day to Ayr Hospice From this weeks Ayrshire Post. AN award winning local brewery and a popular Ayr pub will feature in their own world premiere next week. The two businesses have got together to launch Referendum Ale - aimed at having a bit of fun during the countdown to the Scottish referendum next month. But their Yes and No cask ales have already attracted the attention of the worlds press - and are being talked about from Holyrood to Westminster! BBC news in London and Sky News are just two media giants who have made enquiries about the beers launch. All well as newspapers from across Britain and even Canada. Depute First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has already got her hands on the first bottles off the production line. And told Twa Dugs pub owner Bob Shields she wants to pour the first pint . . . of the Yes ale of course! The interest has prompted Bob and Ayr Brewing Companys Anthony Valenti to stage an official launch event next Tuesday - and theyre hoping MEPs, MPs, local councillors as well campaigners from both sides - and real ale drinkers - will turn out to add to the fun! They have both agreed that profits from the Yes and No beer sales should go to a charity that EVERYONE will agree with - Ayr Hospice. Said Post columnist Bob, It started off as a pub joke - but just kept growing. There was so much Yes and No debate amongst my customers - then one day I looked at my two real ale hand pumps and a bulb lit up. I contacted Anthony at Ayr Brewing Company - and hes done the real work - coming up with two contrasting ales and designing the font badges etc. Were hoping that other pubs across Scotland will want to get in on the fun and order the ales for their customers. The launch party will kick-off next Tuesday from 2.00pm - and run for the rest of the day. The 28th is fifty one days before the referendum - and I know the media will be looking for a story for the 50 Days to Go editions. It looks like this IS the story. And its a bit of fun. You cant beat a pint to froth up those dry political stories! smiled Bob. Bob and Anthony have had their own fun selecting the brews. The Yes ale is an I.P.A which normally means India Pale Ale - but theyve changed it to Independent Pale Ale. The No ale is a classic bitter - so they stole the No campaign slogan and called it Bitter Together. And its not just the cask ale thats causing a stir - the twin pack bottled version is already being sought after by collectors from the UK and overseas. I suppose its a little bit of Scottish history in a bottle added Anthony. Bob has confessed he owes an apology to his fellow Post columnist Iain Ferguson - he gave away Fergies bottles to Depute First Minister Nicola Sturgeon - at Iains OWN birthday party! I got some samples hours before Iains party - and took them along as a unique gift. But when I saw Nicola there, I just couldnt resist the opportunity! Sorry Fergie! Nicola thought it was all good fun and said shed be happy to pour a pint. She is going to try and squeeze a Twa Dugs visit into her diary. If the No campaigners can come up with their own VIP to pour a No pint - theyd be welcome too!.
