Here is News feom the Bank for last week due to being away - Kevin Wilkins has now broken his personal best for three species on Shefford & District AA waters this season. A few weeks back Kevin set new PBs of 47lb for catfish and 22lb for pike from The Airman. Recently Kevin has been enjoying some productive sessions on the Ouse at Little Paxton landing a wide range of species, and he finally managed to track down some of the larger barbel on his latest session. First fish of the day was a 8lb 8oz barbel that broke his previous PB for the species, but his next bite resulted in a hard fighting 11lb 10oz barbel to raise his PB much further. This stretch of river appears to have a thriving barbel population with a number of smaller fish caught in recent seasons as well as regularly producing double figure specimens, suggesting they are breeding successfully in this area. The catfish match at The Airman attracted ten members hoping the catfish would be on a feeding spree. Unfortunately the catfish had other ideas and although a few anglers missed runs, Mick Burley was the only angler to land a catfish, which weighed in at 25lb 1oz. Although Mick is an experienced angler, this was his first ever attempt at fishing for catfish and his first ever catfish. The catfish had also been fairly quiet during the week, but several carp to upper doubles had been reported. Carp, tench and bream have been showing up in greater numbers at Broom Lake, both to anglers targeting the carp and those pole fishing for the roach. The venue hosts the junior carp match on Saturday 17th August with the draw at 8am, with fishing from 9am to 9pm (contact Kevin Williams 07595 585899 for further details). The ever popular 24h match will then be held at Broom Lake with the draw at 7am on Saturday 31st August. Several small carp have been reported from Willington Lake along with increasing numbers of tench and bream. Brian Barrett returned to the same swim that produced an excellent mixed bag the previous week, but in the flat calm conditions all he could tempt was a constant string of skimmer bream with a bite every cast. Members are reminded that vehicles must be parked off the track to allow farm vehicles access to the fields and under no circumstances should the large wooden gates be opened or tampered with. Members must use the kissing gate and stiles provided to access sections of the lake beyond the track.
