Here is a letter I wrote to the Northumberland County about their consideration to allow tourist homes. If you agree please let them know the vote is next week. Kenny The email is a followup to our conversation today about my concern with tourist homes. Im the owner of Re/Max Waterfront Realty and have talked to several potential buyers who are very concerned about buying a nice waterfront home with the potential of having the home next door run as a short term rental. This could have an adverse affect on the value of surrounding homes. Im one of those short term rental people who do rent homes for a week at a time and I can tell you all I care about is having a good time. Most times we have way more people in the home then the home and septic system was designed to handle. My biggest fear is that out of state investors see the profit that can be made and know profit would be the only concern of the investor. Im sure this would not be how every person but history shows money drives investors. You would thing that with me owning a real estate company I would love the potential of more sales but in the long run I see it as a negative effect on the county.
