OK, day 2 of post a favorite song on Facebook so there are less cats. I wanted to choose Princes Baby Im a Star because I have been listening to that a lot lately. I can only find this live version: myvideo.de/watch/7314621/Prince_Baby_I_m_a_Star_Live because Prince spends a lot of time scrubbing the internet of his music. Wherever you come down on that argument, I think he sells more stuff if more is out there, but I doubt Im going to change his mind. Instead, I chose Perfume Genius Queen. I got it as part of a record club, though Bob Ker had been talking him up. The rest of the album isnt so high octane pop, but is good singer/songwriter fare. Actually thats pigeon-holing a fairly eclectic album, but overall I would put it in the introspective sphere. I like it quite a bit. I like this song because I love psychedelic pop. He has a great sense of melody to me. In terms of subject matter, I love how it makes fun of lame straight people, a demographic I can gladly say is shrinking. While I dont have the specific experience of being a gay person and dealing with all the stupid shit they have to deal with, I have the universal experience of struggling to be just be who I am. To me, truly great art takes the makes the specific experience of the artist universal, so we can feel it, too. Bonus points for large shrimp that disturb me.
