Here is a little glimpse into the life of someone teaching others how to eat for optimal health... Yesterday, I was viciously attacked (verbally) by a vegan who told me all about how animal foods are killing people by acidifying their bodies and giving them heart disease. (A position which has virtually no scientific backing whatsoever). This person went on to tell me how they eat a diet of 90 percent carbohydrates and virtually no fat or protein, and how Im stupid for not recommending a diet higher in carbs. Now, heres where it gets really funny... Literally the day before, I was being attacked by a well known ultra low-carb advocate for the exact opposite reason. In fact, the reason is that in my article that I wrote here: (nataliejillfitness/problem-with-low-carb-diets/) I described my low-carb diet as including such things as green leafy vegetables, broccoli, asparagus, and avocado. In his view, this means I was eating FAR TOO MANY CARBS and therefore wasnt truly on a really low-carb diet. Hahahaha. You know youre an extreme low-carb cultist when even broccoli, avocado, and asparagus become devil foods! :) By the way, if youre curious what this persons diet looks like, think bites of meat with butter smeared on top for extra fat. No carbs. No fruit, little to no vegetables. Im not kidding. Thats actually what he eats. Nevermind that eating a high plant food diet is probably the most unassailable scientifically-backed nutrition principle in existence. No no, according to this doofus, one should eat only meat and oil and avoid all fruits and vegetables. God forbid you eat some plant foods, you might eat a gram of carbohydrate or two. On one hand, my diet recommendations arent pure plant foods and nothing else, so I anger vegans. On the other hand, the low carbers come after me and say that my diet is dangerous because of all the fruits and vegetables I recommend. For some people, carbs are the one true dietary savior, and the only thing people should eat. For others, they want people to only eat meat and fat and believe even the tiniest amounts of carbs will kill you. See how ridiculous this is? By the way, the really funny thing is that BOTH of these groups frequently cherry pick the science to give the facade that their stance is scientific. _____ So it seems my dietary approach has enough in it to get just about everybody upset. :) According to the vegans, Im killing people by telling them that animal foods are okay to eat. According to the low-carb zealots, Im killing people with fruits and vegetables. Hahaha. I hope some of you see this humor in this. _______ MORAL OF THE STORY: There are a LOT of total frickin wack jobs out there in the nutrition industry preaching very silly and dogmatic things.
