Here is an update on the new recording, all new songs, REBEL HEART. I will probably call for advance sales when it is complete, in order to fund the final mastering session and the actual production of the CD. That looks like it may happen in May or June of this year. Several radio stations in Houston are anxiously awaiting the release and I think the CD will get some good air play in Houston. Also, the Houston Continental Club has offered to host the Houston CD release party and that ought to be a really cool performance.. The songs are a mixture of typical George Kinney ballads, songs about traveling around playing music and observing life, and some really driving rock and roll featuring the scalding, ripping guitar leads of the legendary James Henry, the Houston guitar virtuoso. Also included is a traditional blues/soul song, complete with a really special saxophone lead that reminds one of the old soul songs of the 60s, but with the lyrical interpretations of current times. The band is, well, truly awesome in most descriptive meaning of the term. I sing the lead vocals, and it turns out that after all those years of not smoking and not being a world famous rock star my voice my voice has been preserved so that against all odds, I can still sing pretty well. The mainstays of the band are myself, James Henry, and Michale Morris. Filling in on bass are William and Morgan, and background vocals are supplied lovingly by Miranda, Mikes dear companion. (I will get all the last names and spelling right on the actual release.) Folks, I am telling you honestly: This is looking like it will the best record I have done. Ironically, the studio, owned and engineered by the master music guru, Richard Cagel, is only a couple of blocks form the legendary Andrus Studio, where International Artists recorded the Golden Dawns classic album, Power Plant, and the 13th Floor Elevators album, Easter Everywhere back in the 60s. So, Im trying to be patient, but it isnt easy. We still have a lot of embellishment to add to the recording, but the basic tracks are down. Now comes the fun part. For all my fans, all over the world, I promise this CD will not let you down. It it is composed of all the soul, talent, and love that we can muster and it will deliver those elements in clear, moving Texas rock/soul, country, blues that you can count on. I will keep you updated and when the time comes to pre-order, dont delay so we can get this thing out as soon as possible. Everyone involved so far has contributed their time and considerable talent simply for their love of me and my music. I am humbled by this outpouring of affection by such a wonderfully talented conspiracy of Houston hooligans and musical ruffians. More later.
