Here is my rant! I hear all the time how bad immigrants are, even while Im sitting there people are complaining how they are taking jobs and how they get all these benefits, and they need to go because they are costing the Americans to much money. I cant help but take offense to this, first of all, Im an immigrant! 2nd of all I was illegally here for awhile too. I had a brand new baby, new to America and recently separated from my sons dad. No direct family, few friends and a baby to support. I know my sons daddy side would of openly let me stay with them, but my pride like always wins out. I found a job working at a dry cleaners working under the table, until my working visa was approved and I could work legally. This was deff not an easy time for me, honestly I was scared to death!!! I often cried because all I wanted to do was go home, go back to what I was used too, what was safe! But I had decided that my son was to come before any fears I had, he needed to see his dad. I dont know my dad, and never wanted to put my son thru that pain I decided to stay! Making that decision meant that I may not see my family for a very long time, and as of now its been 15 years since Ive seen them. My brother did come to visit once and Im so grateful he did. Once I finally got my working visa, things got better, working at a mail boxes ext, then went Into banking, mutual funds and finally into construction. It was still very hard with day care being over $100.00 a week and not making much. His dad helped when he could but he also was just trying to make ends meet as well. It wasnt until I started construction that I could finally breath and not worry so much about, how I was going to pay the light bill, or rent that week. If I could afford Christmas, or birthdays for bray that always seemed to come up fast lol. For a time I was threatened with deportation, if any one has ever had to deal with that, you can not understand the hurt and stress of being taken away from your child and never allowed to come back to this country for another 10 years. Missing out on everything in his life! I had no choice but to fight and stay here, lucky for me his dad did everything he could to help me stay because he understood the importance of our son knowing both of us. It cost over $5,000 for lawyers and months of stressing. Finally I got my letter that would decide my fate! And it said WELCOME TO AMERICA YOU ARE NOW A PERMANENT RESIDENT! Years of working hard to come up with the money, years of stress, and now I could rest a little! Ive never taken welfare, never food stamps, housing, no one had paid my rent, electric nothing. I did this on my own because I had too! I know no other way other than to work for every thing I have, no one can take that away from me. So before you start coming at me about immigrants remember we all have a story, even generations back of people that migrated to the USA. I feel I have contributed more than I have ever taken, and I will continue to do so.
