Big Loves founder Naka has been running a record label since his early twenties- now he is fourty-four- he also started his record store in 2002, and after a several conversion of the label name, Big Love was born in 2008. It is more linked to the record store, more focusing on on-the-spot-ness. 2) What sounds are most prevalent in Big Love? This is very difficult to answer- we never tried to think about it, what always captivates us is something that clicked our mood. It is very interesting, but there are two moments we come across while running a record store. One is when the bands are scattered as dots, and the other is when all the bands are lined, which means there is a particular trend among them. Latter is of course the easier moment to pick new bands / records, but former is much more intriguing, a moment we must follow our intuition. No particular genre, or labels- but dare say we love simple, honest and instinctive music. 3) Tell us a bit about Tokyo music scene. How is it build around Tokyo? (you can mention some japanese record labels, collectives, etc..) I could even say we do not have a music scene at the moment. Shedding light on Punk, Hardcore, Noise, or Experimental music, they still do have a stable scene. But speaking of indie music scene, there is none. It is our central proposition to encourage more Japanese people to start making music. Younger the better, but anyone could start something, Even if you are married, have a kid, and work as a typical Japanese Salary Man. If you care about Tokyo, you must start something, Never seek perfection. 4) Talent wise, what japanese producers should we keep an eye out for? Sapphire Slows, the one and only. Thank you! Haruka
