Police say This started at 9:19 last night on Hudson Ave. Officers Daryl Pierson and Michael DiPaola stopped a car with two people inside. But when they went up to the car only one person was inside. They called for backup. Officer Pierson searched for the second person on foot. When confronted the man, police say the man opened fire. They both fell to the ground, and the suspects gun fired, hitting a bystander. Officer DiPaola caught up with the suspect, the suspect fired at the officer, the officer fired back, hitting the suspect. The suspect is Thomas Johnson. He has a long criminal history and was released from jail three weeks ago. Police would not say why the officers stopped the car. Johnson faces charges of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon charges. Police say he had a defaced 25 caliber handgun. Parolees are not allows to be armed. Johnson will be arraigned shortly at Strong Memorial Hospital.
