Here is todays trick- Trick #18 Find the Hidden Treats. This is a fun trick that is great for kids to help and get involved with.To begin teaching the find it game you will need a handful of small treats or even your dogs daily kibble. Hold a small one in front of your dogs nose and say scent. This will begin to teach them that the scent is the smell to look for. Then toss the treat in front of your dog and tell them to find it. When they do click or give a verbal praise word such as good girl. Repeat this several times. Then begin placing the treat on objects off the ground while your dog is watching and again tell them to find it and praise when they do. Most dogs catch onto this very quickly. The next step is to have your dog in a stay or in another room while you hide several of the treats in a small area. Give your dog a sample smell of the treat and then release them to find it. At this point you may need to stand near the hidden treat area to help them out a little. As your dog improves expand the area where you have hidden treats.
