Here is what stood out to me when I thought about yesterdays lack of sub situation as compared to Ohio Department of Educations operating standards. The ratio of teachers to students school district-wide shall be at least one full-time equivalent classroom teacher for each twenty-five students in the regular student population as defined in section 3317.023 of the Revised Code. School districts receiving funds under section 3317.029 of the Revised Code must comply with the teacher-student ratios and other requirements of that statute. The room I visited yesterday had one sub for 53 first graders at summit. I also wanted to understand if schools were required to communicate with myself as a parent about my concerns. Here is what it said in the Stakeholder partnerships section. (1) The school district or school through its board of education, superintendent, and staff shall work with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the following: (a) Parents (b) Business advisory councils (c) Family and civic engagement teams (d) School-parent or school-business partnerships Other schools, social services, and organizations that impact educational programs for students. As a stakeholders I have tried to take this to the board and district. If they wont engage. I guess Ohio Department of Education Superintendent is my next step. If you want to join me, the contact information will follow. DR. RICHARD A.
