Here it is, in black and white: how the social democrats think. The Whig movement was based on free market laissez-faire , small govt and individual freedom. The Liberal Party followed this classical liberal stance. Then, in 1983, the Gang of Four created the SDP in order to push the statist tax and spend agenda the centre left needs and desires to survive, but without the baggage of Foots Labour Party. The LibDems are to Liberalism what the DDR was to republicanism and democracy. The old guard of the Liberal Party have either left, been pushed out, joined UKIP/LPUKGreen Party, or simply faded into the background. I personally will not shed a single tear if this spineless excuse for a party is consigned to the dustbin of history. There are enough opportunist, populist talking heads in the other parties without these whining little pricks- "the Tories are bad"- so why form a coalition with them? Fact is, it was power for the sake of power...5 more seats red, LibLab coalition...scary thought- Milliband/Clegg in power! uuuggghh........
