Here we are looking at one of the newer bridges around Edinburgh, enter the Regent Bridge which passes over what is now Calton Road, carrying the A1 (yes, that major thoroughfare runs through Edinburgh and this bridge carries it). This neoclassical bridge is often unnoticed as traffic below is limited and its probably fair to say, if you dont exit Waverley Station, you are highly likely to miss this one. The bridge was completed in 1819 at a cost of around £52,000. With a major classical greek influence, this is a fine old bridge. The arch is semicircular, and fifty feet wide. At the north front it is forty-five feet high and it is sixty-four feet high at the south because the ground declines to the south. There are eight Corinthian columns providing support to the three arches that lie open, showing Calton Road below. The first shot is taken looking down Calton Road, towards the Black Bull pub we looked at the other day, with Waverley Station just through the arch, on the right. The second shot is looking back through the arch to where I shot the first one...
