Heres a little STICKER SHOCK for you. My aunt and I went to the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway this afternoon. All of the crafts in the place are made by members of the National Artisans Guild. Okay, are you ready for this? A quilted bookmark was $28.50. A small wall quilt was $795.00 (that was the cheapest one) A twin size quilt was $1300.00. A Queen size was $1665.00 (that also was the cheapest queen size) I got tired of looking. The bad part? Some of those quilts were the same ones I saw last year. They cant sell very many at those prices. Oh, and they had some Christmas ornaments. The cheapest one was $7.00 but I already make the same ones. Found one I really loved but refused to pay $38.50 for a Christmas ornament. (My husband would take me to have my head examined if I had) Every quilt I looked at was done on a long arm machine but the quilting was nothing special. Just meandering. Monika Krall does special quilting on her long arm. Her work, Im incredibly impressed with. What I saw today was a let down. :( But Im still in shock by the prices. Oh, and in the upstairs area is a Permanent Gallery Pictures that had been made with fabric and thread that measured approximately 4 square were only $995.00. My aunt and I jokingly said wed take two. As we walked out the door, laughing. Oh, and no photography is allowed.
