Heres my obligatory Phillip Seymour Hoffman post: One of the most disturbing things Ive read about his death are people who say his death was the result of a selfish act. He had kids. Shame on him. REALLY??? Do you really lack that much empathy and understanding of addiction to know exactly what this man who struggled with addiction for his entire life was silently enduring all these years? The dude was sober for 25 years and just recently did he start relapsing. Am I condoning drug use? NO! Am I saying what he did was smart? NO! But Jesus Christ show some humanity by not publicly condemning a dead man who has no means to defend himself. Addiction is a monster and a disease. It never completely leaves you and its something most people have to endure their entire life. So please, show some common decency, get off your high horse and realize were all as flawed as Mr. Hoffman.
