Heres something I realized while listening to Neil Gaiman reading - TopicsExpress

Heres something I realized while listening to Neil Gaiman reading his short story, Click Clack the Rattlebag. The presentation began with a bit of mood-setting music. And suddenly, because of that, I felt like a kid sitting in front of a radio in the 1930s or 40s, mesmerized. (And it certainly didnt hurt that the storys an attention grabber and Gaimans a very good voice-actor!) Then I remembered how, as I worked in the garden at one of my old houses, I used to listen to old-time radio shows on NPR. They also had musical accompaniment. I dont know about the rest of you, but I have difficulty concentrating while listening to audiobooks. My mind wanders. Now Im wondering if brief insertions of appropriate music (say, between chapters) would recreate that radio-show magic and help keep me immersed me in the story. Just a thought, cause I was struck by how engaged I was with Gaimans reading and how unengaged I am with others.
