Heres that writing influences meme thing... in no particular order except as they popd into me ead. Note that not all of these examples are listed because of their writing as much as what they taught me about the craft. 1. Donald J. Sobol 2. Edward Packard/R.A. Montgomery (These authors made reading fun for me as a kid.) 3. Douglas Adams (because his words are like a comic rock opera set in space) 4. Robert A. Wilson (for opening my mind to fantastic half-truths and the idea of perception as reality) 5. Harlan Ellison (because he was kind to me when he could have been otherwise and because the stories stay with me.) 6. Hunter S. Thompson (because you need to be beaten with the truth you choose not to accept) 7. Richard Matheson (smooth prose conjuring brilliant worlds) 8. Jimmy Gownley (in many ways better than Schultz, Watterson and Breathed in capturing the joys and fears of being a kid without pandering or moralizing. Often funnier, too.) 9. Aaron Sorkin (speechify, brother) 10. Quentin Tarantino (for showing me how to write tight, crisp dialogue) 11. Mike Resnick (for editing some of my favorite anthologies of alternate history fiction) 12. Keith DeCandido (for showing me how professionals function in their natural habitat and also some of the uncomfortable truths about how far I need to go to be successful.) 13. Robert Kirkman (who managed to unseat Romero as the zombie storyteller and who, despite long and drawn out storylines in the comic, still creates distinct and memorable characters every month.) 14. [redacted] (because he taught me how NOT to write.) 15. Erik Burnham. (The man has my dream gig as a writer and is totally killing in it.)
