Heres the complaint/rant. As many of you know, Patty has been - TopicsExpress

Heres the complaint/rant. As many of you know, Patty has been diagnosed with and has been treated for Carcinoid Cancer since 2005. This has meant a lot of Dr appointments. This also means that we are very well educated on how visits go. 1st let me say that Patty is the most important person in my life and I would do anything to keep her happy and healthy. Health care professionals are really beginning to get on my nerves lately. Perhaps because I am tired or perhaps because I am willing to put up with less and less as I grow older. Yes grumpier too. Patty is currently on chemo again. Last week we went to see her oncologist. The visit with the Dr went well and then we were off to the nurses to get her monthly (maintenance) shots. While waiting we were told that the shots werent there, sorry but there was a mixup. We rescheduled for tuesday and were ok with that because we have smaller shots that Patty can take at home when needed. They needed her to come in today, thursday for lab work. On monday I called and asked if we could get her maintenance shot on thursday so I would not have to take an additional 1/2 day off of work. the secretary said yes and she would tell them. Today 2hrs prior to the visit, the nurse calls and says that they do not have the shots and were not aware of the schedule change. I am already home as I took off for this visit. We have rescheduled for tomorrow morning. More time off of work. The nurse said that the secretaries and the nurses are seperate entities and the secretaries never told them. Obviously they did because they called to say they didnt have the shots. Again. I told her that they are all in the same office and they need to communicate with each other. When we go in tomorrow morning I will check out the secretary and look for tire marks on her back from being thrown under the bus by the nurse. Tuesday I took a half day off to drive to Norfolk to see a Dr that could have told us what he told us over the phone. Time off = loss of money. Maybe not right now but it will come retirement time or if I go in the negative leave balance. Also known as Leave without Pay. Dont misunderstand me. I will take off all I need to to care for Patty. Are Drs living in such a bubble that they think all we do is sit around and wait for them to call us and can come at the drop of a hat? Are they so blind that they dont realize that time off for many people means no pay? Or no family vacation? If you are late for an appointment or miss an appointment without 24 hours notice they charge you? Yet they will have you wait hours past your appointment time and think nothing about loss of work/pay to the patient. I have sent an email to the senior Dr at the practice with these concerns. Rant over. Thank you for letting me vent and I dont blame those that left midway through the comments. Trying to stay positive.
