Here’s a little more detail on how this page will shape up over the next four years. “Plans, projects, proposals and preparations” will increasingly be joined by “people, places, protagonists and politics”. The page will continue to link to WW1-related news stories as they appear and also to existing websites which cover the major events (including anniversaries) and many less-remembered aspects of the conflict. For a number of reasons I am however going to resist the temptation to convert the page into a straightforward WW1 “timeline” and instead use a slightly different approach. To use the current month of August as an example, my intention is to feature material which relates to the month of August in EACH of the five war years. This will be repeated for September and so on. In this way I hope to more effectively get across to you the reader more of the sheer diversity of information generated by the war rather than merely follow the course of the war itself. We’ll get under way tomorrow………
