Hes gone off the deep end. For you Christians who are trying to balance the desire to honor Christ at Christmas, and not sound like a scrooge, I want to explain something that I think Cameron gets very wrong. It is one thing to remember the deeds of a man named Nicholaus who gave gifts to poor children. The spirit of giving goes a long way this time of year- especially when youre giving compassion. But the modern day Santa has been turned into a spokesman for materialism. He is portrayed as a Magic Elf who lives in a magical place up north and comes down once a year to determine if youve been bad or good and rewards those who have been good. He has become a false Christ. He has become a way to lead children astray. A way to forget Christ. This time of year was not originally Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ, but that doesnt mean we cant give God all the glory, and honor him while everyone else is glorifying the gifts, magic, and meaninglessness. In our home we celebrate Christmas. Our home is filled with things to help us remember Christ. Lights because He is the light of the world. Angels because they proclaimed the birth of Christ. A tree because he was crucified on a cross of wood. Manger sets to remind of Christs lowly birth. But no Santa. Santa does not remind us of Christ- he takes away from Christ. So no, Kirk Cameron, you are wrong. And your numbers are showing you that fellow Christians disagree with your message.
