Hewlett-Packard to lay off 500 Posted on July 9, 2013 by andyslawetsky — LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —Hewlett-Packard Co. says it will lay off 500 people from a customer support center in Conway. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company told workers Monday that the layoffs were part of a program announced last year to streamline the business. The center opened in 2010 with 600 workers and the promise of employing twice that number. A company spokeswoman wouldn’t say how many workers are left at the center but officials say an HP business unit will continue to operate in Conway. HP received significant state incentives to open shop in Arkansas, including $10 million from the Governor’s Quick Action Closing Fund for infrastructure for its building. State officials say they’ll determine any money owed by HP. Hewlett-Packard says it will take steps to offer affected employees assistance during the transition.
