Hey Guess Who? Our next NAEYC Board Member! Perfecto! Welcome to NAEYC! My name is Cristina Gillanders and I am a Board Member At-Large in NAEYC. I studied Psychology as an undergraduate in my home country, Venezuela. Ever since I was a girl, I wanted to work with children. After graduating from college, I was hired as a school psychologist at a preschool that served children from 18 months to 6 years old. After working for some years I wanted to further my education and came to the United States to pursue my graduate studies. During the time I have lived in the USA, I have been interested in the learning and development of young dual language learners and the professional development of early childhood teachers. NAEYC has had an important presence in my professional life. I believe that NAEYC will play a pivotal role in defining the future of the field. NAEYC also has been a place for me to find colleagues that are as passionate as I am for improving the lives of young children and their families. I am delighted that you have decided to join us. ¡Bienvenidos a NAEYC! Mi nombre es Cristina Gillanders. Yo soy miembro de la Junta Directiva de NAEYC. Vine de Venezuela a este país hace más de 20 años. Desde entonces he trabajado como maestra prescolar, docente universitaria e investigadora. Mi área de investigación es el desarrollo y aprendizaje de niños Latinos bilingües. También estoy interesada en las creencias y prácticas de padres y familias de grupos minoritarios. Como Latina viviendo en los Estados Unidos encuentro que NAEYC me permite relacionarme con otros profesionales y personas Latinas que comparten mi misma pasión por la educación de niños pequeños. Me alegro que haya decidido unirse a esta gran organización.
