Hey! It is so hard to fathom how much scientists can learn from a Fossil and inferences. Now I am not trying to encourage a renewed debate between Creationism and Evolution. Personally I do not believe the one should be used to prove the other wrong, It is a mute point for me since human beings are not perfect and are capable of making mistakes. Ultimately there will be a point that science cannot prove everything and neither can the theologians. It is this unknown which allows for faith. If you can prove it then it becomes a science, but when there is no final proof then there is faith. I have heard people allowing themselves to be on a scale to see if their weight changes any when they die to see if there is an actual body part known as the soul! I know there is a soul because I have faith there is one. I prefer not having concrete proof for it would reduce the soul to an aspect of science. I firmly believe the soul is an essence of being which is greater than all the knowledge of humanity. I have faith that there is a divine and the soul/spirit is the presence of the divine within each one of us. Chittenango is my home town and it is the “hometown” for the Chittenango Ovate Amber snail. This snail can only be found at the bottom of Chittenango Falls thus making it an endangered species zone and rightly so. Learning is growth ...it is empowering. Scientists have gone to great lengths to find the who , what , where , and whys about this snail so we can best assure its survival. I am actually a bit honored that this little critter chose to live under our falls, or should we say it has allowed us to live in its backyard! I can just imagine someone painting a “tag” on these snails....something you can identify each individual snail. It is quite impressive how much time and effort has been devoted to understanding this snail. The same is true for all things of the past; ire. Fossils. Scientists, once again, have gone to great lengths to explore and discover the mysteries locked up within the fossil records. It is vital for us to understand the past so we can chart the future ahead! Knowledge is empowering. No this is not a set up for a Creationism/Evolution debate. Actually I do not believe the two are incompatible. Besides with God all things are possible whether or not it can be proven by human beings. I am going to ask a “why” question though. Just as it is important to diligently examine the past for jewels of wisdom and knowledge, why dont we do the same to know each other in the present. Why do we not try to discover the needs of our fellow human beings? I love to fish so appreciate the fishing analogy related to empowerment. I can give someone a fish and they can eat for a day, I can teach them to fish and they can feed themselves from what they catch, and if I teach them about the environment and fishing they can ensure the environment is maintained so fishing will always be a way of life and not just food for thought. No knowledge is useless, but what about the knowledge yet to be explored fully. Why do we leave knowing others to just the Sociologists or Statisticians? If we want to help each other to survive should we not learn about each other as gifts of the divine? In knowing our neighbor, like the Good Samaritan, we can help each other to grow through compassion and not pity. We need to take as much time and effort to know each other as scientists do to know the past of all eternity. I am a firm believer in “Random Acts of Kindness”, but also believe it is vital to be seen as well. There is so much that can be done when we do not worry who gets the credit. I will post several pictures of a similar quote for you to enjoy, but look at the credit lines of each poster. I just thought this to be rather funny given the quote and all. I digress a bit though. Helping others should not require our recognition. I rather not be known because then it is not for my ego, but an example of empathy and compassion for others. On the other hand, I also believe it is vital to show those in need that people really care by demonstrating this fact by modeling this care to those in need. I want people in need to know people do care more about them other than throwing a check into an offering plate or spare change into a can. Talking to the people expresses respect and a desire to understand their situation. Sharing the most precisions gift of all, our time, with others demonstrates the belief they each individual is important. Over time as I sit in a McDonald s nursing dollar coffees, I have had a chance to speak to those who are down on their luck. They all have interesting stories to tell, but the greatest of all was the story they told me by their loving care. The two ladies took me under wings and helped me to learn the ways of the street. Like buying a Coke to sit at the restaurant and then how to get warm soup from ministries in the area to bring back to eat while nursing on ones drink. They cared enough to make sure I knew how to survive if I had to be on the streets. They were modeling the love for all we all should have! Actually I was quite honored to be allowed to learn from their vast wisdom of life on the streets. I learned what churches had the best free meals and the weekly time table for these warm meals as well. In knowing someone has taken the time to get to know them, I hope they realize it is because they are very important to others and in the eyes of God. God Makes NO JUNK! I will never return to the now so I need to make the best of things here and now to ensure all have the best life possible. I do not mean throwing money at an issue, but to learn the identities and lives of those in need so we can show compassion and empathy and not mere pity. We must take the same amount of time needed to know an endangered species to get to know all our fellow human beings. How can we help if we have not taken the time to “walk a mile in their Moccasins. Gandhi devoted great time and energy to learn about the lives of the people of India. Not the Westernized community, but those who were natives to the region. He understood the people of India enough to realize someone in need needs not one shoe but a pair of shoes. I allude to the story of how Gandhi lost a sandal when he got on a train. His fellow passengers were astonished when he threw the other sandal out towards the first. When asked why he threw the one sandal away, Gandhi noted how someone in need will now have a pair of sandals to wear and not just one. Gandhi knew the people of India and what they needed. HE could have kept the one sandal, but for what purpose? He knew for a sandal to be effective it needed its counterpart. Just as Gandhi knew the people of India, each one of us need to be a Good Neighbor by knowing our neighbors. We need to know those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We need to not only become informed of their needs , but to teach others about their needs and how to best help those in need. We can throw money at the issue as if the homeless were faceless statistics. We should not be showy when we help, but we must show those we help that we are ready to devote our time to help empower them to discover their full potential. We can give away fish, we can give money to buy fish, but when we take time to teach people to fish then they will also know others believe they are worth their time to help! They are being helped because others do not feel they are broken human junk! In knowing we are respecting. In respecting we begin to demonstrate the individual is worth it to make the effort to help! Do not just toss fish to those in need take time to know them and then find out how to empower them to make fishing an effective tool for survival! Remember, I shall come by this way but once so need to do what we can to empower others while we are still here. Time is precious and thus in sharing our time with those in need should demonstrate they too are worth our time ! They hopefully can realize they are people of potentiality! How did Christ teach us about the service nature of ministry! We need to bend on one knee and take the time and effort to wash the feet of others. In doing so we can realize those feet have seen many miles of easy and hard roads. Learn, grow, and then help through serving! https://youtube/watch?v=2xkQHh0HUxU&feature=player_detailpage
