Hey Pensadians! I come seeking advices.. So Ive recently moved out to my own house on the countryside.. Really beautiful new digs, no neighbors, no volume restrictions, straight bliss.. The only problem is that my house is a tall, A-frame loft design, with pretty much one giant room inside.. Ive since pulled my monitors up my closer (as per the 67.5 recommendation), but still have been having some issues with getting my mixes down.. The room has a bit of reverb with the high ceilings, and Ive recently bought a pair of the Auralex MoPAD-XL (isolation pads) for under my monitors, but still have been feeling off with everything.. It seems like most the mixing done on my monitors (Pair of Yamaha HS-80Ms + RME BabyFace) is not holding up well when referenced in headphones that Im familiar with (HDJ-2000s .. i know, not great for mixing, but theyre all ive got right now) or in my cars system.. I dont really have any other options for relocating my studio room, since its pretty much one, big, open loft-design.. I dont have the resources to build a room, or do any special kind of treatment to a massive room of this size.. I was hoping maybe you guys could shed some light on my situation.. I figure maybe worse-case-scenario is that id have to look into getting a top-notch pair of monitor headphones for mixing.. Im not gonna lie, i kind of prefer mixing in headphones anyway, since i feel like its much easier to hear the very tiny details when working with EQs/saturation, etc.. Im not sure if you guys would recommend using a high-end pair of monitor headphones in a situation like mine, or what, but if thats the case, I really wouldnt want to spend more than $400-$500 (preferably less, but flexible for a big jump in quality).. I produce dance music, so would want something that is as true and flat as possible.. From my research, so far Ive heard a lot of good talk about the Beyerdynamics DT-770s and ATH-M50s.. but I really dont know all too much about ohms and things of that nature.. I do have an RME Babyface if that helps in making a suggestion as well.. Thoughts? :)
