Hey all! I havent posted here much so I hope that doesnt hinder any of my chances. Lets start at the beginning, my name is Glenn Matchett and Im a comic book writer/editor. For the last few years Ive worked with a small press publisher called GrayHaven comics. A year ago I launched the first issue of a crime mystery comic Living With Death: Murder At Oxford in what was intended to be the first part of a four issue mini series. Due to many reasons I wont get into here, the project has had a lot of hiccups. Essentially I now come one year later looking for someone new to do the book with from scratch. Ive learned a lot about the comic book making process in my time at GrayHaven and I hope the new experiences will lead to less issues in the future. Heres some quick details. More about me: As a writer with GrayHaven, I have worked with the company since it began. To date I have been published in 17 of their comic anthologies and edited 16 of them also (with more to come on both sides!) Im also going to be featured in Alternas sci-fi anthology which I believe will be launching late this year/early next. I have released 2 solo works being Living With Death and Sparks. Both of which have been very well received. What does well received mean? Your mom saying she likes it doesnt count: Well yes, my mom did like it but thats besides the point. Since Im here talking about Living With Death, Ill focus on that. Coverage on Bleeding Cool: bleedingcool/2013/09/15/living-with-death/ Positive reviews: irishcomicnews/2013/09/review-living-with-death-issue-one, fangirlblog/reviews/living-with-death-murder-at-oxford/, geekmom/2014/03/comic-book-corner-03-26-2014/ Local press: countydownspectator/news-mobile/business/item/349-glenn-s-got-the-write-stuff-for-comic-success There are also a lot of fan reviews/kind words Ive posted on the Facebook fansite here: https://facebook/LivingWithDeath Is it written?: Scripts for all 4 issues are completed Whose publishing it?: Formally it was GrayHaven. Due to the length of time after issue 1 the entire thing would have to be 100% completed before resubmitting with them. I would be willing to shop around elsewhere but that is the likely home for the mini. Whats it about?: Essentially Living With Death is my love letter to classic crime fiction I grew up with as a kid. Heavily influenced by Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, Living With Death tells the tale of Stephanie Hawkins. Shes a young genius who is investigating the murder of another young girl at Oxford. Along the way she meets medical student Jenna Wakefield. Initially they dont quite get along but they begin a friendship that Jenna is now reminiscing from the present, after Stephanies death. There is something seriously wrong with Stephanie you see, something that in her eyes gives her something in common with the murder victims she is trying to avenge. What I would like: The mini to be finished! I have big plans for the overall series but Id like mini 1 to be finished to start. Well see what happens after that. Im open to any style and would love someone really passionate about the project and really dedicated/dependable. Financials: Formally I had tried to get this done through backpay. Im poor, everyone trying to break into comics is poor but that goes for artists too. What I would like to do is pay someone to do a number of pages and attempt to raise to pay for the rest of their time via crowd funding. Its not ideal, I know but at present I think its the most practical solution. What am I offering now?: I am willing to offer a $50 page rate at minimum. I say at minimum because if someone wants to do the project but perhaps feel they want more then I would still be open to that. If someone loves the project and knocks my socks off and wants more then well see. Im thinking the artist will produce the first 4-5 pages plus a cover meaning roughly $300. The rest of the book will be dependent on the crowd funding. What if we dont get the crowd funding?: Artist gets paid on delivery of the pages, before the Kickstart goes live. Whether its successful or not, they will at least have been compensated for their time. They can also use the pages in their portfolio if they wish, the only thing I ask in that regards is that I am credited as the writer. Interested?: Still awake? Exceptional! Reply here, pm me or e-mail me at glenn_matchett(at)hotmail. Please provide portfolio links when contacting. Thanks for taking the time to read this :) I think Ive covered everything but if I havent please feel free to ask any questions. Look forward to hearing from some of you soon.
