Hey everybody! Chris here. Wanted to give you an update on the goings on at Sakl HQ since weve gone dark for a while. Read at your own risk! So why have we been so silent? Theres no good reason, really. I could lie and tell you that we planned it as part of some grand hype design but lets face the facts, this isnt Tool and it definitely isnt Necrophagist; this is just Soul Cycle. Life has kept me busy and distracted from the new album. Priorities, yall. However, in the brief moments of time Ive had to work on songs, I find myself nitpicking and fine tuning rather than writing and recording. Thats not abnormal (I did the same with II), but I did most of it AFTER I had the songs built out. This time around, Im admittedly being far less efficient. Ever heard the saying, dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good? According to Wikipedia, Confucius said it in a different way - Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without. In other words, the struggle with completing SCIII stems from wanting to create something perfect (which is ultimately subjective and a waste of time) rather than just something good (which is probably what youd rather hear anyway). I have to let go on some things. For starters, Ive finally given up on the mix. I say given up because it sounds great, in fact much better than II, just not MY idea of perfect. But it never will be. I have to ignore the voice in my head telling me otherwise. Less really is more! With that out of the way, I can get back to putting the ideas in my head down on a multitrack before I forget them. The good news is that theres a renewed focus on writing and recording, so this train is going in the right direction again. In the spirit of turning the aforementioned frustration into music, Im working on a song titled Perfect Enemies to open the album. Thats about it for now! Hopefully well have some more snippets for you in the future. Thanks again for being awesome people!
