Hey everyone, I was doing some research in Guinjata Bay on the local shark and ray fisheries from June-Sept 2014. I had to return home to England to write it all up but I decided its a worthy cause and something that needs more attention. So in order to collect data to help government logs and use to lobby for better protection of the local marine area, Im creating a marine conservation organisation that runs volunteer expeditions in Guinjata Bay, Mozambique. The ideal, is that while the programs out there (Aug-Oct in 2015) well have volunteers on call that are collecting data every day for the entire 3 months and if anything is brought up in Coconut Bay, Guinjata Bay or Paindane Bay (and other bays if we manage to secure funding to get a car) people can call us and well come running. The volunteers will be recruits from all over the world with a scientific interest. Well do a weeks training with them and then theyll be put to work. Theyll spend two weeks collecting and collating data (on rotation so data is collected constantly for the 3 months), one week teaching at the local school and helping with classroom improvements like laying new floors (the cost for this is covered by funding and the price of the volunteering), and one week diving and fish IDing to get a log of the animals still alive in the sea. The 6th week they have an optional trip to Kruger National Park. There are two programs like this back to back so there is 3 months of data collected in total. Were currently recruiting volunteers for the 2015 programs and itd be great if you could help spread the word. You can just share the video on this post as that hammers home the message. Also, if anyone has any guidance or wisdom they want to pass on thatd be more than welcome. Thanks!!
