If I have to seek out some differences from countless similarities - TopicsExpress

If I have to seek out some differences from countless similarities between Boston and Philadelphia, such as similar red-brick buildings of colonial era, similar city size and status both in history and now, universities with similar reputation..., then perhaps the first one is that for Philadelphia, to distinguish between the old Philly and the new Philly is not a hard work. There seems to be an invisible line that clearly separates the citys history and now. However, such a line is comparatively much vaguer in Boston. Skyscrapers with curtain walls and historical buildings are often congregated in the same area. History never gets too far from the modern Boston. Moreover, maybe because Philadelphia is the birthplace and former capital of the States, when wandering in the shadow of green trees in old city, what impress me most is the solemnity and serious historical significance brought by buildings like Carpenters Hall, Independence Palace, and various famous former residences, but not the colonial era’s atmosphere and lifestyle filling in red walls, Greek columns, and the bell ringing of old churches. Comparatively, even on the Freedom Trail still I can smell the tension of the American Revolutionary in the air, when Freedom Trail comes to North End of Boston, what I can experience when standing on the thin red line which go through Bostons history are not only confined in political and historical things, but the lifestyle, the living pace of people who used to live and who are currently living in there, and heart beating of the city.
