Hey fellow Telus employees, this saturday, I will be going to Toronto on behalf of our union to discuss the issue of merging with the United Steel Workers - If you want to find out more information about this merger, and what the advantages we would gain, and a bit more info, have a look at the summary here: wearestrongertogether.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/2014-Merger-Summary.pdf En bref: For the same amount of dues, we would be gaining more resources, research, expertise, funds, to help with the renegotiation of our collective agreement coming in 2015. We would be gaining access to an extensive list of courses, training by the USW in areas such as womens leadership, youth leadership, legislative and political action involvement, health and safety and much more. We would also benefit from in-house legal support for grievances, and other issues. In my opinion, this is a strategic move that collectively we serve to gain from and will make us stronger, and move forward our individual rights as workers as well as the collective movement as well. I do have some questions that I will be asking and if you have any as well, please share them. If this gets passed at convention this saturday, it will come out to everyone for a vote. Please read the document,and share any concerns, questions you may have. You should know where your money is going to, and have a say in the matter - We are stronger together!
