Hey guys! I want to introduce an exciting new website concept being developed here at Brandeis. The site is called PoliticalPulse. Our idea was recognized as the best startup at the 2014 Brandeis 3 Day Startup Challenge. Weve been selected to move forward to the 2014 MassChallenge. Were looking to add web developers and graphic designers to our team. PoliticalPulse is a news and political commentary site with exclusively user-generated content. Our concept marries a mainstream news layout with social media, providing users with both platforms to drive the discussion of todays important issues. Our concept has a precedent. Bleacher Report, founded in 2007 by four recent college graduates, revolutionized the sports news industry by providing a platform for passionate sports fans to create full-length commentary articles and interact with others who share their passion. The exposure that results for aspiring journalists (many have been hired by top sports content providers) and the fulfillment that the user interaction creates has led Bleacher Report to national prominence in short order, culminating in their acquisition by Turner Broadcasting for almost $200 million in 2012. Bleacher Report currently sits at #3 in the sports news industry. PoliticalPulse has significantly greater market potential, given the inherit need to obtain news, the burning desire for many to voice their political opinions to a large audience, and lack of gender bias. Market research has indicated that while people are getting their news and political commentary as often as ever via mainstream online sources, the majority is dissatisfied with the status-quo form of news and its content generated by an enclosed circle of paid journalists and pundits. Although some have turned to social media to get their fix, that medium is unable to deliver comprehensive commentary and gains aspiring journalists no legitimate exposure. There is a clear void in the market. PoliticalPulse fills that void by not only bringing the two mediums together, but by providing you and me a voice, thereby integrating the reader/writer relationship.
