Hey guys under Ethics for going meat free on the meat free monday campaign i was wondering if you guys wanted to add anything, this will be put on the pamphlet- if you have any references or one sentence you want to add or if there is something you want to take out, comment please! i just did a rough backbone to what i thought should be said..(it also probably has to be shorter than this actually.. Ethics on being Vegetarian/Vegan Deciding to go meat-free for a day, a month, or even years can all have benefits to your nutrition, the environment, and the animals which we share the world with. As a human being on earth we are considered an ‘earthling’ and many people feel that we have an ethical responsibility to look after the other earthlings which share this land. These earthlings include; sheep, cows, fish, chickens, pigs and all others exploited for our gains. As an individual, going meat-free, you are able to save 8 animals per month by not eating them and up to 100 per year. Vegans save 200 animals a year by not consuming any animal derived product. By going meat free you pledge to restrain from partaking in the industry that harms, tortures, and kills up to roughly 9 million cows a year and around 5 millions pigs every year. We are also ethically responsible as members of this planet to respect the land we live in, this would include to restrain from participating in the industries which contribute to eutrophication of our waters from livestock farming by-product runoff, and from land degradation caused by high stocking rates on our lands. In terms of food security, by going meat-free you are also restraining from helping the industries which grow and import grain in order to feed the animals (to be later killed for food) which instead could be used to feed undernourished children and families all over the world. Every little bit counts, refusing to eat meat once a week is a great opportunity to learn about alternative styles of cooking and eating, whilst minimising animal exploitation.
