Hey hey guys! Did you know that today is Dia de São Martinho (St. Martins Day) in Portugal? Legend says that once upon a time, St. Martin, a wealthy man, was riding in a very cold day when he saw a beggar, dressed in rags. Being a good man, St. Martin cut his cloak in two and shared it with the beggar. In celebration of his good actions, the sun broke out and tradition says that every November 11th there will be sun and warmth - St. Martins Summer! ... well, as you can see, theres not much sun today, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt enjoy the other parts of the St. Martins tradition! :) Every November 11th, Portuguese people attend informal parties called magustos, where we eat roasted chestnuts and drink a special licquor called água-pé. So if you find a roasted chestnut seller in the downtown area, I suggest you buy a dozen chestnuts wrapped in newspaper :) theyre delicious, cheap and youll be experiencing one more aspect of Portuguese culture!
