Hey, my friends. Ive been reading your comments and votes on what movie should I review next. Leigh Brown voted for Final Destination 5, while Grant Wechsel and Heather Catherine voted for How to Train Your Dragon 2. Its two against one, and obviously the two are gonna win, so How to Train Your Dragon 2 is the next review. I also thought it would be good to review this today as only yesterday, this film won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. So, lets see why this film deserved the award. Its been five years since the events of the first movie, and the viking village of Berk is now living peacefully, with Vikings and Dragons getting along together. The one that united vikings and dragons together, Hiccup, is now being pressured by his father to become the new chief of Berk. Unsure about this, Hiccup spends his time going on adventures with his dragon, Toothless, flying around the world and discovering new lands. One major discovery eventually leads to the return of Hiccups long-lost mother, who has been living in another world filled with a large colony of dragons she saved herself, because she also believed dragons are innocent creatures. However, at the same time, Berks peace is shattered when an evil man, named Drago, plans to conquer the whole world by creating a dragon army for himself to invade Berk. Only Hiccup and Toothless have the power to save Berk once again and change the future of both Vikings and Dragons. When I saw the first movie, I loved it. I liked the whole premise, I liked the setting, I liked the characters, I liked its voice cast, and I liked the story. I never expected there would be a sequel, as I first thought that the first films story had a great ending that never intended to make me think of a sequel. When I heard that they were making a sequel, I was nervous at how the sequels story would play out. Well, guess what? This sequel surpasses the first movie in so many spectacular ways. They upped the story, they upped the characters, they upped the humor, they upped the action, and most importantly, they upped the drama. I mean it. They really, really upped the emotional scenes in this movie, and they are so well done. The animation? Top-notch and awesome. It goes to show me that CGI animated films never get old. They keep making new groundbreaking animation to leave me in awe. The action sequences? My goodness, theyre on the awesome spot on the thermometer. The best one, and my favorite scene in the whole movie, is the battle between the good guys and their dragons vs. the bad guy and his own army of Vikings and Dragons. Holy crap, is that battle awesome. Its on par with all the battle sequences in Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings. Man, I want to watch that battle again and again and again. In a quite rare move for animated sequels, every single cast member from the first movie returns to reprise their roles in the sequel. Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller and Kristen Wigg, theyre all back as their characters, and theyre all wonderful as well. Out of all the original cast members, I have to say that Gerard Butler is the one that stands out. Butler stood out in the first movie, and hes done it again in this movie. Also, most of the actors are comedians, but when their characters are going through an emotional scene, the comedic actors, especially Baruchel and Ferguson, they can really act in the dramatic scenes. I mean it, they can really act. While were on the subject of the cast in this movie, lets talk about the two new actors that joined this movie: Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou. Blanchett plays Hiccups mother, while Honsou plays the villain Drago. Man, are those actors a perfect choice for those characters. What makes those two characters stand out is not just the actors playing them, but because of how their voices are unrecognizable. When you hear Blanchetts voice in the movie, you dont hear Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. When you hear Honsous voice in the movie, you dont hear Juba from Gladiator. You hear completely different voices. Why am I saying this? Because this means that those two actors really got into their characters, and thats a major good thing. Also, the villain Drago? Easily the best villain Ive ever seen in a DreamWorks Animation movie, right up on par with Gary Oldmans Lord Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2. So, Heather, the answer to your question on your comment: Is this movie worth seeing? Well, my answer is...yes. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is easily the best ever Dreamworks Animation movie I have ever seen. Every single aspect, the animation, the voice acting, the action scenes, the emotional scenes, and the darker and more serious tone, makes the film really deserve its Golden Globe. Hope you enjoyed this review, and Im sorry if it was a bit long, but I just couldnt stop writing about how awesome this movie is. Its easily the best ever animated feature of 2014. See it if you havent already, and I hope youll love it. Well, thats three reviews Ive done now. Only two left for now. Final Destination 5 and Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers. Again, my friends, Im letting you vote which one should I review first. Its really fun for me, because its like an X Factor Grand Final. Its horror film vs. Disney film, face-to-face, and only one of those two films is going to win. Which one will it be? Vote on the comments page if you want to.
