Hi All! I am sending a note today to announce and in some cases, to just remind everyone that we are now LIVE and counting down in our KickStarter Crowd Funding Campaign to help save The Uptown Theatre. We have a 2 phase project that includes: (1st and foremost) The conversion from the 100 year old 35mm film format projection system to the new (and extremely expensive) Digital Cinema Technology. The conversion to Digital Cinema has hit hardest at the single screen, single auditorium, independently owned historic Movie Houses (just like the Uptown). these business models, in most cases, exist doing little more than keeping up with the cost of operation, "a labor of love." and so we have done our best to save and prepare for this day as we have seen it coming for a couple of years now; but, we have to be creative with at least a portion of the cost, so we would like to involve as many people who are interested in the preservation and survival of these historic movie venues as we can. The great thing is that we will not only save The Uptown from going dark, we will create a new and exciting future that we will all have the opportunity to enjoy for many years and decades to come! The conversion to Digital Cinema will allow us to not only continue bringing the best Motion Picture entertainment available to The Uptown Theatre and Port Townsend, but it will be a Bigger, Brighter, Clearer, better looking and better sounding motion picture experience., with features like Dolby Digital 3D and High Frame Rate (HFR) product on the way! Digital Cinema will also provide new opportunities to host special events, Benefit Fundraisers, Theatre Rentals etc. as we will have access to previously hard to get Archived Classics, and alternative programming. Our 2nd phase; will be the much anticipated and very exciting Uptown Theatre Renovation Project. Lots of work to do this fall, and we could use a little help putting it over the top. When we have finished, we promise an Uptown Theatre never seen before. An exciting, inviting, luxurious and Astonishing BIG SCREEN, BIG HOUSE, Motion Picture Entertainment Experience that will be the talk of the Olympic Peninsula.
