Hi All....We are finally home and settled back in. Just finished - TopicsExpress

Hi All....We are finally home and settled back in. Just finished up giving Ethan his 3.5 hours worth of IV antifungal infusions and he is hooked up to his feeds and already snoozing away for the night. Obviously the good news is we are home for the weekend but the bad news is we will be back inpatient at some point in time next week. The scans from today showed no improvement after a week of treatment with the big gun antifungals. If anything some of the larger nodules have increased in size again and he is still running a fever. The CT guided needle biopsy from last week was finally found to be inconclusive and now the oncologist is wanting to go in and actually remove one of the nodules for pathology. Depending on the method of removal and the need for drains to be put in we will be there 3-7 days. Of concern also are the swollen lymph nodes in his neck and a few other symptoms that are pointing toward something other than the original fungal infection having spread from his sinuses to his lungs, kidneys, and spleen. This roller coaster ride of not knowing what is growing and spreading inside my little mans body is becoming just a bit disconcerting. I need answers! I need a definitive treatment plan. This state of constant uncertainty is enough to drive a person crazy! I love this quote by Morgan Freeman in the movie Bruce Almighty. He says, Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?” I swear I must have prayed for all of those things at some point in time because Lord knows he is giving me plenty of opportunities to practice! Trying to take it one day at a time and take the good when we can get it!
