Hi Brad I know this is a much publized topic at the moment, but I - TopicsExpress

Hi Brad I know this is a much publized topic at the moment, but I feel that if we all stand together, it is better than standing alone. The above company has been calling my home at 09h40 in the evenings. I have told them that I am not interested and yet they continue to call. Their calls are from a withheld number and initially they wouldn’t even give me a company name. They are rude and arrogant. I called Eskom and they have no initiatives regarding power consumption saving at the moment, despite the fact that “Renewable Energy” specifically quote that they are representing Eskom. I have my elderly Mom and Dad living with me and I believe that under the harassing nature of the phone calls, my father set up time to see the company, although he stated that he wouldn’t let them onto the property, suggesting that they could talk to him through the gate. I left work specifically to be present when they were due to call, so that I could deal with this unpleasant matter. They promised to remove the phone number from their list once they had visited your home. They arrived at my gate and I asked for the name of their company, which was given as “Renewable Energy”. I asked for an accreditation card, which they didn’t have (not surprising), I then asked for a business card, which they didn’t have (not surprising). I then stated that they were not representing Eskom and that I had already logged a call with Eskom on their consumer watch line (086 003 7566) and the nature of this is being investigate. It didn’t phase them too much. I then asked them to remove my number from their call lists as I believed that their organization was a scam and I would be reporting them to the police. I took down the registration number of their vehicle – a silver Toyota Yaris sedan – ND 291 778. After this, I called 1023 and asked for their phone number and was given – 071 404 1885. This phone has a voicemail of Thabo answering it and it states that the voicemail box is full and thus no message can be left. That happened on Tuesday night. Last night, before 18h00, they again called my home – I wasn’t home from work yet, but my father managed to get a number of 031 811 3432. At 21h35, they called again. I expressed my dismay that they would a) continue calling after I had repeatedly told them I am not interested and requested that they stop calling my number and b) that they be calling me at that time of the evening. At this stage, the phone was handed from a woman to a man, who said that he heard the call getting heated and he decided to take over. The woman was giggling in the background as they are quite clearly enjoying harassing people. I put the phone down after telling them stop calling me and they called another twice after that. This morning, I called the 031 number and found that there was an answering machine for “London Enterprises”. I immediately Googled London Enterprises and came up with a couple of Hello Peter hits against them. When checking the Hello Peter site, these comments have already been deleted. London Enterprises supposedly sells and services Kirby Vacuum Cleaners. I called Kirby SA to find out about London Enterprises and whether they still had an association with Kirby, but found the person at the end of the phone to be most unhelpful. I also found the number of 031 201 8813 against London Enterprises – their address is 261 Moore Road, Durban. I called the 031 811 3432 number and finally got a lady by the name of Charmaine (or at least that is what she said) who answered the phone. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she must know what it was about. I said it was a complaint and again asked to speak to a manager. She asked if it was about the Call Centre and I said “yes” again asking to speak to a manager. Her laugh at the finding out that it was the call centre was smug to say the least. She then suggested in a most sarcastic tone that she put me on hold for an hour and a quarter while she waits for her manager to come into the office. She did ask for my phone number and I refuse to give her either my cellphone or office number as that will only make the harassment worse. While I waited for 10h00 for the managers to arrive at work, I called the police, who said there is nothing they can or will do. I have called the courts and can get a restraining order against Renewable Energies, but I doubt that it will be taken seriously. I, as a rate paying, law abiding, SA Citizen feel aggrieved (and I am sure that there are many like me) that I am not able to get this company to stop this ridiculous harassment on a facility that I actually pay for. I understand that there are a number of items on Brad’s facebook page and also that this has been reported on Consumer Watch (I unfortunately do not get to hear the programme as I am at work at 06h30 in the morning). Whilst I don’t expect either Brad or Wendy to be able to resolve the issue, I cannot understand how the Durban Metro and SAP can simply standby and continue to allow this ridiculous affair to continue. I understand that telemarketing is permissible, but this is clearly not telemarketing, it is harassment. With the recent spate of crime in the Highway area, residents are fearful and unsure of whether this company and its scam is really just opportunistic or whether they are checking up to see whether phones are answered or not. Please, this is an appeal, if there is any sort of action we (as residents) can take against the continued harassment, I would love to receive the advice, so that we can action it and continue with our lives. I am sure that a friendly letter from a lawyer may bear some fruit, but it won’t solve the ongoing problem.
