Hi Everyone! I have returned from my trip to Jordan & had an incredible experience! The trip was planned so I could gather more information about the gaps in emergency contraception (EC), reproductive health supplies and programming in urban situations. The purpose of this trip was to improve the understanding of the unique barriers related to EC use among urban refugees in Jordan, with the goal that I’d explore the possibility for expanding EC access to this population. During the trip, I was able to interview 5 individuals from 4 different organizations in Amman (UNFPA, UNHCR, a local Jordanian NGO, and Abt Associates). Although at first I was extremely nervous about conducting interviews alone, I became more confident and comfortable with each one. Everyone I met was very welcoming and encouraging & provided great information that I’ve been able to share with my colleagues here in Washington. There has been a lot of excitement around my findings & some of it will be presented at a conference in NY at the end of September :) My internship at JSI officially ends tomorrow, but looking back, I feel really fortunate to have had this experience- both at JSI and to represent JSI during a country visit to Jordan. I’ve gone ahead and attached a few photos from my visit. I was able to meet up with another UCLA public health alum to visit Petra & the Dead Sea! I just want to say thank you again for supporting the Elissa Bradly memorial internship fellowship & that I really appreciate all your support during this summer internship experience. All the best, Jessica
