Hi Folks, Just saw this Great idea...Heres something for your page a blast from the past.... About 14 years ago a slightly younger Matt Fiddes (sporting a pony tail), with two of his instructors and myself set off early from Barnstable, and drove East across the country with the boot of the car stuffed with leaflets posters etc..We were dropping this marketing material into schools along the way in the early days of his expansion..... It was a miserable cold winter and freezing !!!!! We got off to a great start, managed to be well received by most schools...Almost every school we planned to visit across the two counties took the materials.... Around 2.30pm we had covered a good few towns... I think we drove as far as Andover, because I remember passing Stonehenge as we came back.... Now I was starving and the cold was getting to me as well...I was his guest on this trip as he was good enough to show me how he was setting up his schools...but my interest was waning as the hunger and cold started getting to me...We came to a place on the way back I think called Warminster (forgive spelling and UK geography folks..Im Irish thats my excuse!) and we hadnt eaten since we left... I dont know if these small red books are still available in the UK, but each town that time had little red atlas books, maps showing where each school was.. He (Matt) walked into a service station, bought the local red book and checked each and every school in that town and was not happy until he had visited each one listed on the map......The lady instructor with us did the most work ..but he did not rest until we had done what he set out to do... I thought he would at least stop for a bite to eat, I would have given in to the palate easily and gone home way earlier...But he carried on ..and on..until he was sure he had done enough...I mean every possible school... This was the way he was then, totally focused on becoming the best..nobody knew who he was back in 1999..ish.. well not as much as now anyway... He eventually brought us all for a massive meal, and the trip in his Merc back home was as warm as toast...He looked up to me as I was, a good bit older than him and had a good run myself in the MA mags back then. I have never let on to him, or anyone else for that matter, until now..how bad I felt that miserable day standing in the cold, tired and hungry. I still get the He-bee Gee-bees when I see a Stone Circle......but I learned a life lesson from him way back then..... and its this........ When you have a Goal, as he had back then..I mean a Goal that possess you, more than food or sleep, a goal that when you work on it, you lose all track of time. A goal that is way way way bigger than your problems and a goal so exciting that it is capable of riding the first and second waves of rejection and your intuition from deep in your belly is both frightened and excited all at the same time, and.... then... when you learn to condition yourself to marinate in daily doses of discomfort, and you are willing to do shed-loads more than anyone else..then folks..you go to a place reserved for the disciplined few..thats a place, beyond belief a place of simple knowing that you are acting and feeling you are living your Goal already....then your chances of success are most definitely assured......well back then Matt had his goal more defined than most.... Now I am certain all you fired-up folks are reading a heap of self help books, probably have a few motivational CDs in your car..and while all this is good..You guys have got Matt Fiddes as well...now though hes way older and I hope way more wiser... I know he took tons of rejection, back then anyway... I disagreed with a few of his early projects, and felt the odd pang of jealousy, but respect to the man he just kept going,he stayed busy, focused... Did you guys know he almost died.....? So to any begrudgers yes, sure he did a few silly things, but we all do that...show me someone who doesnt...any mistakes he made are more highlighted now because he has the spotlight.. Thank God Face-Book was not around in my day....no generation were saints....its a fact of life..... I will safely wager he is far from finished, he wont stop here...and he will definitely make way more mistakes and fail at lot more things than an average person, simply because he is motivated to try a hell of a lot more than most..... I wish you guys and girls the best on your Motivational Page.....Its a great Idea to spread motivation....we all need it at times.....even Masters..... Peace love and respect to you all.. Frank Murphy..
