Hi Im Sarah, Im 22 and last year I was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, its a type of bone cancer. My doctor recommended me with having and allograft surgery, I was reluctant because I didnt like the uncertainty that my leg would fuse with the cadaver bone. I was considering an amputation but my doctor refused he and my parents talked me out of it and now a year later half of my leg has fused but the other half has stopped. Im in pain constantly, my leg feels weak and not stable(which it isnt right now). My doctor has suggested to try a bone graft to stimulate bone growth or remove my knew altogether and my tibia and put in a prosthesis but that would mean more surgery in the long run. Basically Im still considering amputation. Ive had leg problems since I was 13/14 and to me its been a bum leg, thats not getting any better. Im not satisfied that if I get the bone graft it might not help, and I dont care for the uncertainty that if this graft doesnt work then I will need more surgeries. Because I am considering amputation I would like to have some input on having an above the knee amputation. I would like to know the pros as well as all the cons. I want to be educated before I make my decision. Thank you very much!
