Hi. My name is Jill Humpherys and I am a member of the Gilbert School Board. My position on the override is this: I have supported and continue to support having an override on the ballot. This local support goes to the quality of education needed to prepare our children for their future. Quality public education is an economic driver in Gilbert and Mesa because it: • Raises property values, • Attracts businesses to the community, • Gives employers an educated, prepared work force, and • Lowers the crime rate. I believe that education is our strategic investment in the future of our children, our community, and our democracy. I am happy to work with other board members to find an override percentage that meets the needs of our children. When I consider different issues that come before the board, I do my homework through research and asking questions. When I have asked Dr. Allison about putting an override on the agenda, I have always voiced my support. I base my vote on the available facts and the educational welfare of the students. Any information that board members may bring to bear on decisions that are before the board need to be shared with all board members in time to be given due consideration. I ask other board members to refrain from attempting to explain my motives, my positions, and my votes.
