Hi Oakland fans! As most of you know, earlier today was the hearing in the City of San Jose v. MLB case before the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. All in all, the hearing seemed to favor MLBs arguments in support of their antitrust exemption, which is at the core of how they determine where teams play (and why they can legally refuse the As ownerships request to move the team to San Jose). Here are some additional recaps: -fangraphs/blogs/mlb-san-jose-athletics-lawsuit-antitrust-exemption-ninth-circuit/ -sfgate/athletics/article/Judges-take-dim-view-of-San-Jose-s-effort-to-draw-5684371.php -mercurynews/crime-courts/ci_26323021/san-jose-v-mlb-citys-case-looks-bleak The final ruling of the court should be published in the next month or two, and will help determine any further actions the City of San Jose might take (including appealing to the US Supreme Court, which is likely) to try to force MLB to allow the As to move. However, the most important thing to remember is that the focus should now be on a solution for a new ballpark in Oakland, which is the path of least resistance moving forward. We will be continuing to push the As, MLB and Oakland and Alameda County to work towards a real solution that keeps the As, through a transparent process that is fair to taxpayers. We will keep you updated as we hear more, but were excited in the hope that this may bring us a step closer to the most logical solution for the As, a new stadium in Oakland.
