Hi all! I just added a post about fledgling birds and wanted to talk about something for a minute. Welcome to Tuesday Tidbits! This is a very important tidbit. This time of year there are all kinds of baby birds that are fledging. It is very important to know that when a bird fledges, Mommy and Daddy are not always visible to the human eye. In fact, they can be a mile or two away and still be VERY aware of their babies. Their hearing is way more acute than ours. This being said, it is very easy to think that the sweet baby bird you see on the ground is abandoned. More often than not, this is NOT the case. Unfortunately, a lot of good hearted people dont realize this and they pick up baby bird, who they think is an orphan, and take it home to raise. All the while, Mommy and Daddy bird are looking for baby who has disappeared:-( This makes the odds of this baby very low in survival. We can not raise a baby nearly as well as Mommy and Daddy can. So, if you happen to see a baby bird on the ground and you think it Is in harms way, by all means, move it to a safe place like a tree or a bush. But be sure it is very near to the location that you found it. Mommy and Daddy probably are not too far away. Thank you and happy birding!!!:-) Deb
