Hi all! I just wanted to update you on my CH girl Ivy. She was in the hospital a couple months back for a week and was very near the edge. The admins here shared her fundraiser for me and so many of you were here for support, thank you so much! Its been hard to keep up with everyone who has expressed interest in her journey so here is an update! We were able to rule out lymphoma, YAY!! She was on an array of meds, 9 per day! But now she is down to only one, 7.5mg of prednisone per day. Each 3 weeks we will see the doctor for a check up and assuming everything is in line, and her appetite and litter box performance is normal, we will be lowering it by 2mg each time. Her official diagnosis is IBD, which someone here suspected and referred me to a great group of very informed and compassionate IBD kitty parents, so thank you for that! Shes been put on an extremely strict DUCK ONLY diet. She is tolerating it very well but with IBD, there is still a chance her bowels can choose to protest it at any time, in which case we will transition her to either venison or rabbit meat. Im not feeding raw because I dont even know where to buy duck meat near me, but I am entertaining the idea. So many duck entrees in the pet stores still have turkey/pork/chicken/fish hidden in the ingredients list and even the tiniest amount of ANY other protein is a no-no for her. Shes been doing absolutely wonderful since the day she came home from the hospital! She has reacted well to her new diet, she takes her medicine so politely and there have not been any side effects at all from the first step in lowering her steroids. Its crazy to realize something as simple as a diet adjustment can make such a huge difference. When I say she was near the edge, I mean it. There were days Id visit her at the hospital and staff members would walk in on our visitation room beaming with joy to see her light up with me, because they personally werent sure she would make it through the night. God forbid any of you ever find yourself in our shoes but if you do, PLEASE please spend as much time in the hospital with them as you humanly can. It really makes a difference in their healing! I am convinced of it! Thank you all so much for all the prayers & words of encouragement. IBD is something she will have her whole life, but it is very manageable and I feel so blessed that I rescued this sick little kitty, because I know a lot of people might not have gotten her the second opinion that saved her life. She is my sunshine!
