Hi all, Last night I managed to have a chat with George - TopicsExpress

Hi all, Last night I managed to have a chat with George Ferguson, and used the opportunity to discuss Filton. He felt that it was certainly too late to do anything to reverse BAEs decisions however he felt it very very short sighted. He seemed kind of aware of the Bridgehouse partnership split when I mentioned, but said in the scheme of things it wasnt a big deal as contracts for housing with Persimmon etc had as he understood it, already been agreed. We discussed uses for the site on the BCC side of the fence especially the brab and he said he had tried personally to secure some form of listed status for the brabazon (post airfield closure) but no re assessment by EH was considered needed. I suggested he supports putting the brab site in particular to good use in the private sector which he saw as a positive new idea, I suggested the heliport idea we have discussed here to provide a home for air ambulance and police as well as a private VIP flights which he seemed intrigued by. He said he visited the brab a couple of weeks ago and said he is still in awe of the place and thinks it offers opportunities - his words were it would make a fantastic festival venue (?!) after I suggested even using for an arena and ice rink! He said that actually my suggestion of him trying to entice private enterprise in to find a good use for the brab was a valid and so far, for his point of view unconsidered. He promised to look into the options going forward but overall shared frustrations that the site has been lost. He wanted to make a point that he had always been a supporter of the airport and had been one to lead the push for commercial operations from filton in the past. I know there was nothing firm here to help the cause but if it can at least go some small way to help start thinking of saving the brab long term...then I deem it worthwhile.
