Hi everybody - some good news about the Woomera Cinema! It was set to close because the old projection equipment (which is in fantastic condition by the way) could no longer be used as there were no more reel to reel films available - everything is now digital. I saw the last film showed there last year (Gravity). Well, great news, the Air Force have found the $90K to install a digital projector and this will happen on 2nd of Feb 2015. And for the ex-woomerites, a former ex-student (Elizabeth Alford nee Bolton-Theobold) has just become the first RAAF uniformed person posted back into Woomera in about 16 years! With creation of the new structure for Woomera (Woomera Range Complex with the RAAF Woomera Test Range and the new RAAF Base Woomera (formed on 12 Jan 2015) coming into operation, Elizabeth is an Air Force technician working for the Range side of things and has just been posted in on the Range staff at Woomera. Elizabeth is overseeing the install of the new projector - oh and by the way she is also helping to run the radio station - which has also just been saved from closure. Look up Triple R FM on facebook and if you want to help, get involved back in Woomera, there are probably ways you can!! The picture is of rebuilding works at the airfield late last year. Cheers!
