Hi everybody, my name is Rian Lennon and Id like to start a small film crew and make 4 or 5 shorts in the Belfast area over the next year or so. The idea is to get a group of talented young film-makers together, forming a film crew, and to meet up on a weekly basis to discuss film ideas and pre-production, before actually shooting a few short films and getting our hands dirty. I cant offer pay, but will fund the shorts with whatever I have and will supply food and drink on shooting days. Studying cinematography, lighting, sound, and whatever else can only take you so far and I believe the only way to become adequate at something is to actually practice it. This is a chance to do that with other like-minded individuals. A little about me. Im a 22 year old law graduate with a passion for film-making. My interest really began at Alevel where I studied Moving Image Arts, a 2 year course giving an overview of the basics of film directing, shooting, and editing. At university I completed a few shorts and a music video, but did so only with the help of friends and without a dedicated film crew. I realise the importance of having such a crew if I wish to make films of a high quality. I also worked as the multi-media editor for my universities award winning newspaper, and some of the skills learned there may come in handy as a film-maker. So I do have some experience under my belt, but am very much a novice and should make that clear. I do however, believe that with a lot of practice and commitment, we should be able to bash out a few captivating films and boost our portfolios. Comedic, dark, dramatic, surreal, theres really no single type of film I want to narrow in on and I think making short films is a great opportunity to experiment so well likely try a few different things. Equipment wise, well be shooting with a Canon 7D (although if someone has better, well use that). I have some basic audio and lighting equipment aswell but hope to find better equipment in those areas soon. Ill be taking on the role of writer/director. This will very much be a collaborative process though and suggestions and ideas from the crew will be taken on board. Im looking for anybody, male/female, cat/dog, above the age of 18 with an interest in the following areas: Director of Photography; Lighting Technician; Editor; Sound Recordist; Boom Operator; Makeup Designer.
