Hi everyone! So I know lots are wondering how Kentucky went, and I am excited to say it went really well and we are looking forward to future treatment with Dr Abell!! Many might not know but insurance had declined my pacemaker, and so this visits main purpose was to go out and meet Dr Abell, get testing done, and of course come up with a game plan so we can be ready to act on fixing my pacemaker once insurance approves it. So basically our Kentucky trip was a great success and I am so grateful we were able to make it out there even though we werent able to fix my health quite yet. As for my appointment I will kind of fill you in on all we did while in Kentucky! We started our day off right at 7 AM with an emptying study which involved me eating radioactive food and them taking XRays of my stomach over a period of 4 hours. This test/study specifically allows the doctors to calculate how long it takes for my stomach to digest both solids and liquids. Then after this we had an EKG of my stomach done, and I had never even heard of this so I felt so cool getting it done. This test allows the doctors to see how many times my stomach contracts every minute, which I thought was amazing that they could do that!! After these two test we met with THE Dr Abell! I had no idea until we started talking that he was the co-founder of the gastric pacemaker and the founder of the temporary gastric pacemaker,,,, So you could say Dr Abell is to Gastroparesis as to Albert Einstein is to electricity,,, Hes AMAZING!!! The year wait was well worth it! I was beyond nervous that this visit would turn out exactly how Ohio was for me last year and that really scared me, but meeting with Dr Abell I was finally able to understand my sickness and make sense of everything that I struggle with. It was so nice to have someone who validated everything I said and helped me understand all that comes along with my sickness. We have a road ahead of us with future treatment, but with Dr Abell my health future has never seemed so bright. We are praying that insurance will approve my pacemaker soon but until that time comes we will just continue to make changes to my diet and hope for improvements there! Then on Wednesday right before we came home he has me tested for malnutrition and also for some muscular paralysis or something of that sort... We wont get those results back for a month and a half due to them having to send the labs out to Baylor and Mayo so we will also be anxiously awaiting those results! I am so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers that have been said in my behalf, I know I wouldnt be where I am today without the amazing friends and family I have in my life! I love you all and Im sorry I am just updating, I have been getting ready for college which starts tomorrow... So finger crossed that I can survive haha I have heard college is so fun and I truly cant wait to start this next chapter in my life!! Love Gentrie
